Christmas Party - 7th December 2008

Our annual Christmas Club Day was held on the 7 December 2008, we started the afternoon with a Car Trial in which 15 cars took part. On this hour long trip, participants had a series of questions to find answers to along the way & directions to follow. This resulted in some cars getting lost (in particular an E38 Valiant Charger, not mentioning any names!!). Overall everyone was back at the Lodge in good time - (Must have been too easy).

Results as follows:
1st place:               Dwayne Terry
2nd place:              Brent McDonald
3rd place:               Simon Smith
Closest to Cone:     Lurch  (Craig McKenzie)
Hard Luck:             Daryl Moodie
Lowest Points:       Terry Lynch

Santa arrived with gifts for the children and the afternoon wrapped up with a BBQ tea.  A special thanks to Santa and everyone who took part in the day.

Overnighter to Glenorchy - 21st/22nd June 2008Overnighter 2008

It was Saturday morning when we all met at the Croydon Lodge, where we were pleasantly surprised to have 14 cars turn up.  We had another couple join us further up the road, with a good variety of people from all ages & backgrounds.

We set off just after 10.30am in very frosty conditions, but it then turned into a beautiful day.  We were struggling to get the temperature gauge above the blue, therefore the heater wasn’t running as its best in the old girl.

First stop was Garston Hotel for a quick refreshment and the publican’s choice award won by Tony Oliver then it was off to Frankton Arms Tavern for lunch.  Thanks to Kev Ryan who had lunch sorted for a “quick” turn around (3 hours later) before heading through to Glenorchy by 4 o’clock everybody had been fed & watered  (apparently they didn’t answer the phone when he tried to ring) yeah right Kev!!!!

The rest of the day was buggered! So what to do but check in at Glenorchy and lean on the bar, which for some was only for about two hours (Paul Cross) and others about eight hours (Darren Dickie).  The night was a success with great raffles and a good band, topped off with a game of rugby plus a local lad doing burnouts in his XR6 ute outside the pub.  You can always rely on a Glenorchy local for entertainment.  Apparently the club president had trouble finding his room and was lucky not to be charged for two rooms and probably very lucky the bed he got into was empty.  While others got revenge back after the Haast trip antics – Thanks Kev we got you worse than you did us.

The Sunday morning breakfast was fantastic especially for those of us who forgot about tea the night before.  Most people took a drive up the valley after eating, but it was a very average day and I think by 11am the last car had headed back towards Queenstown and started the long trip home.

Our appreciation must go to James & Lynn Campbell who put on a great night once again in Glenorchy.  Apparently the pub has been sold and is getting a big make over so the old bar will be no longer.  A job well done to the kitchen staff also at Frankton (team of 1) who put out about 50 meals (hey Kev). Thanks also to those who attended we hope you enjoyed it. Yes it was laid back but it was in Glenorchy.
