Gore Christmas Parade - 13th December 2009

Another great turnout with 13 vehicles. Next year we might put in a bit more effort and sort out a float! Cheers to everyone that turned up.

Christmas Function - 6th December 2009

What a great day out! The weather was near perfect (bar about 20mins of rain...). There were around 15 cars at the lodge with the majority taking part in the Car Trail - which Shady and Kev had done an excellent job of organising (though our president thought it was a bit hard!!). The Trail started with the 'who can reverse the closest to the cone' game, with some interesting results! No-one hit it, actually no-one even came close with some being nearly a metre away!! Doug took out 1st prize in his AP5 (though they do have a sloping boot which may have helped) with a distance of 17cms. The worst was Lurch with a distance of 87cms.

The cars headed off in 3 minute intervals with the run expecting to take about an hour & a half so we were quite surprised when Lofty came back early. He had got lost after the first corner so decided to drive all the way to Waikaka for a beer only to find the Pub was shut!! So for his efforts walked away with the hard luck award. The rest of the cars came in Christmas 2009on time.

Points were given for the correct answers as well as the closest times, with Darren Dickie taking out 1st place (69 points) (even though he continually questioned the judges answers!), Mike Rodgers taking out 2nd (66 points) and 3rd place went to Tena McCarthy (56 Points).

Matt who had borrowed Kev’s car somehow managed to drag the trail out to about 3 hours leaving Kev in a bit of a panicked state wondering if they’d found a ditch, but much to his relief they showed up in one piece!

After the prize giving and a few laughs, Santa arrived with his sack of goodies to hand out to the kids who had been out playing on the bouncy castles all afternoon. A few beers were drunk and the Lodge put on an awesome BBQ for tea.

A huge thanks to Santa for taking the time out of his busy Christmas schedule to come and visit us, to Shady and Kev for organising the Trail, The Lodge for opening up for us and providing the BBQ and to everyone that turned up and made this such a memorable day.

Mopars in Geraldine - 24th/25th October 2009

The second annual “Mopars in Geraldine” was held on Labour weekend and with the weather looking good about 8 cars from Gore headed up the road for a good weekend of talking anything Mopar over a few quiet ones.

I had the pleasure of scoring a seat in Brent Grumball’s newly restored VF Pacer which has been off the road for about 6 years.
We arrived late Saturday night and met up with the rest of the crew at the local Pub for a few laugh’s.

We woke to a beautiful sunny day, gave the old Pacer a quick spruce up and headed down to the “Meet and Greet” just out of Geraldine. About 67 Chryslers turned out and there was a great variety of Aussie and US Mopars on show.

After everyone arrived all the cars headed to Timaru for the official “Show and Shine” for the general public to check out and vote on their favourite Mopar.

This was followed by a cruise down to Waimate, Cave then through to Pleasant Point (via a few Pubs of course) and finally back to Geraldine for the prize giving and Dinner.

The Gore cars cleaned up all the prizes with Chris Labes’ V8 AP6 taking out the peoples choice award, Harry Swain's triple webbered VH Regal taking second and Grumball's VF Pacer taking third.

But the best effort would have to be from Alan Pavit for taking the Hard Luck trophy. After deciding to fully paint his VH Pacer on the Sunday BEFORE the run, pulled two all-nighters from Thursday to get it ready, then had the engine shit itself just before Dunedin, trailer’d it home and the boys pulled another all-nighter to get new engine in it and met us up in Timaru on Sunday morning! Now that’s dedication!! Although after only a few hours sleep in three days Pavy was looking a bit worse for wear.

Thanks to all the organisers for a bloody great weekend, awesome cars, awesome weather and far too much Bourbon.

Cheers.... Dwayne.

Kaka Point Car Run - 27th September 2009

10 cars on run, weather was very coastal - definatley no beach side activities. The Publican had the resturant nice and warm for us while everyone enjoyed a few liquid refreshments and a good lunch. All in all a good day out.

A sad day for Dwayne having his last trip in his VG Pacer... (Pacer is off to Jaffa Land)

Publicans Choice: Michael Croft

Colouring Competition winners:

1st - Samantha Terry

2nd - Rylee McKenzie

3rd - Tom Lightfoot

Annual Overnighter - 18th/19th July 2009

GTS MonaroOn the weekend of the 18th July, our annual overnighter was held, this year we headed though to Hawea stopping along the way at Alexandra for lunch and then to Lowburn for a few photos, reaching Hawea about 4.30pm. Was a great turnout with 14 vehicles.

A late night for some……… 3am, for others difficulties with opening doors resulted in one participant purchasing a new door in the morning only to find the keys in his pocket where they had been the previous night.

There was interesting news the following morning with the road being closed between Alex and Roxburgh, but a stunning sunny day made sure that it was reopened in time for the club to travel home.

Publicans Choice:
Millers Flat Pub & Alex Top Pub: Chris Gillan (Rock) VF VIP

Mystery Poker Run - 05th April 2009

We had 10 cars join us for a trip that took us though to Waikaia for lunch. Even though the travel route ended up exactly the same as the Classic Car Club who also had a trip that day, we were all able to get lunch at Waikaia. Great day had by all. Good to see the Tutty twins enjoying their 3rd birthday in the Prem for the day - Happy Birthday.

Results

Winning Hand - Ben Wornall (hand of three 7's)

2nd - Brendan Newland (Sooty) (hand of three 3's)

3rd - Steven Tutty (hand of two Jacks's)

Publican Choice Award - Steven Tutty

Classic Car Show - 7th February 2009

Muscle's ImpalaThe Gore A&P show was held on Waitangi weekend this year, and for the second year the Southern Aussie Muscle club was asked to run the classic car show. The weather turned out to be good on the day which encouraged about 40 car nuts to get their pride and joy out of the shed. There was a great variety of cars on display and all of very high standard. The most dominate make was by far the Valiant with about 14 in the line up including two genuine E49 Chargers.

We had 7 categories for voting and the results are as follows:
Best Ford was Darren Dickie with his XW Fairmont.

Best Holden was a real nice HT wagon owned by Steven Tutty.

Best Valiant was Greg Anderson's Blue VG.

Best American went to Brad Newland's Chev Impala.

Best European had to be Hazel Horrell's old Austin Shearline.

We did have a Best Japanese class as well (a contradiction in terms I know) but none were entered.

The final prize went to Len Ross’s original old Fairlane for the Peoples Choice Award.

A big thanks to all who entered cars. It was commented a few times on how it was the best thing at the A & P show, so a great effort.
