Not a bad turnout with 9 cars all up. We changed from the traditional Poker Run to a Dice Throw and it was a lot easier to figure out the winner at the end of the day.
After the 1st dice throw we left the Croydon Lodge 30 minutes late as normal, heading to Woodlands Tavern for 2nd Dice throw. It seems Steven Stuart was very thirsty on the trip there downing two king browns!
Then we headed down to Kennington, turned off and went thru to The White House at Lorneville for the 3rd Dice throw. We then travelled to Winton for 4th Dice throw at the Middle Pub and finally onto The Celtic Tavern at Browns for the Final Dice.
By this stage everyone was having a great time, one carload beginning to show youth party tricks… aye Sonya!
Winners were (Out of a possible 60):
1st ($80) Jenna with 47
2nd ($40) Glenn with 45
3rd ($20) Dwayne Woods with 43
Cheers, Aaron.

For this run we decided to hire a bus! We left theLodge at 11:00am and headed out Riversdale way to have a gander at Brian Mahon’s outstanding sheds filled with some sweethot rods and Aussie classics.
Next it was out to the Riversdale Hotel for a bite to eat. Gil’s place was next on the list and he too has a massive collection of vehicles – between the two of them I think they’ve managed to collect nearly every Aussie Ford ute made including a very rare 4x4 XY ute.
After picking up Gil and co. we cruised around a few other storage sheds and garages, telling a few lies and having a couple of quiets. Then we headed out to Waikaia for a quick beer before finally making the trip back to Gore! Good weather & great company made for a fantastic first club bus trip.
A huge thanks to Dene Henriksen for driving us round (and cleaning up the bus afterwards!) and a huge thanks to Gil Kay and Brian Mahon for opening up their sheds and showing us their collections!
The weather was not good to us on the 24th July with snow etc. so we postponed it to the next weekend and what a ripper it turned out to be!
We left The Lodge with 6 cars in tow including new members Shannon & Kylie who had come in from Hedgehope. It was a nice cruise through to Invercargill where we caught up with Steven who was doing laps waiting for us to arrive.
We were booked in for lunch at the Cabbage Tree restaurant in Otatara who put on a good spread – deciding on something from the menu took about 12 hours as there was so much to choose from! The kids were entertained with colouring in, x-box and the outdoor play area.
Once lunch was finished we headed back into town to Superbowl. They organised a lane for the younger kids that just went continuously all afternoon while the competition got underway.

After a humiliating defeat from some of the ladies we made sure we had plenty of chances to drown our sorrows on the way home!
Was a great day out for the whole family as well as the adults.
Once again the overnighter was a great success and I’m sure that everyone that went had a great time, well I did anyway!
Trumpet had made us late on Saturday morning and the convoy leaving the Lodge
left without us. We boosted it to Mandeville and turned off to head up the hill. We had just about got to Balfour when we saw Tony’s pacer ahead, just about to catch him and he turned off.
“Not to worry” thinking that I’d caught up to the convoy, so we carried on at a ‘leisurely’ pace. Imagine our surprise as we pulled into Garston and no bastard was there! “Surely they couldn’t have left already…” so we sat there for a bit had a beer in front of the fire and about 10mins later the convoy finally arrived! They’d gone through Riversdale and were obviously driving a hell of a lot more leisurely than me!
Anyway, a few more beers and a quick catch up at the Garston Hotel then it was time to head to Frankton. The Publicans choice award went to Callum MacDonald in his AP6.
Was a pretty sweet drive through to Frankton with cars pulling off at different times to ‘look at the scenery’. We had a tasty bite to eat at the Frankton Ale House.
The last leg of the journey was through to Glenorchy but not minus a quick dome through Queenstown! Haha, maybe too old for that… maybe!
We arrived into Glenorchy at various times, we were staying at the Camping Ground so polished off a few beers there before heading over to the Glenorchy Hotel once the sun had gone down.
From there a lot of talking shit, drinking, pool, rugby, telling lies and all the other fun stuff that happens when 8 car loads from Gore go out of town for the weekend!!
It seemed that in the morning most were up at a reasonable hour, must have been cause it was so friggin’ cold! Hell of frost. We pretty much just packed up and buggered off, passing one carload that had pulled over to let one young lady… umm do some sort of praying… of course two minutes later we had to pull over to let Shady do some praying of his own! Luckily he’d finished before the other carload caught up with us. Ahh memories.
A fantastic cruise and a great night out. Thanks to Toni for taking some photos of the night and to the staff a GY Hotel for being such great hosts.
Can’t wait for next year! Cheers, Brad. Click here for more photos...
This year was another great success with 53 classic cars and 4 motorcycles – there would have been more but apparently the show clashed with a M.A.T.E.S. M.C. ride.
The weather was OK and the sun did make an appearance in the afternoon.
This year we raffled off a die-cast model (to the value of $200) from Laird Motorsports but instead of trying to sell the tickets ourselves we enlisted the help of our very own Southern Aussie Muscle girls! They must have been looking great as they sold a heap!! The winner of the model was Callum Harvey.
A big thanks to everyone that brought their vehicles down, especially to those from out of town and also thanks to the girls and all of our judges. As has been mentioned in previous years the car show is quite a highlight for people attending the A & P Show.

For our first run of the year we headed up to Cromwell to attend the Classic Car show. We left the lodge just after 8am with 10 cars in convoy and headed up to Heriot to meet up with Dave and to avoid the road resurfacing around Tapanui.3
As we headed into Central the weather really cleared up and it was looking to be another hot one! Once in Cromwell we were signed in and began to set up our club display, with the flags and the marquee.
With just over 500 cars there, there was plenty to look at, so after a good look around – and by this stage the sun was really starting to bite – it was time to relax in the shade. Good thing this year we decided to take two marquees as everyone else from the club must have had the same idea!
On went the stereo a few drinks were cracked into and we pretty much stayed like that for the remainder of the day, with different people coming in for a yarn or beer or just to ask about some of the cars. Later a few of us headed down to the lake to cool off.
Once the show was finished we boosted over the road to sort out our accommodation at the Top Ten Holiday Park. Then Pud kindly ordered Fish & Chips for us all and went to pick them up!! Thanks heaps Pud, it really was much appreciated! The meal was of course washed down with more cold drinks. Most of us stayed up talking and listening to music until the camp manager told us politely that we were probably making just a little bit too much noise so we hit the sack.
Next morning a quick clean up and we headed off home, though not in convoy as some went out for breakfast while others were still sleeping!! Thanks to Lurch too for looking after the excess gear for the week.
I highly recommend attending this show even if just for the day, with 500 odd cars & great weather – it really is one of the better ones in the South.
